This kit was designed to raise awareness about the hidden fats in everyday foods, to help students make wise and nutritious fat choices. It is important to talk to students about the fat found in foods, as they are eating more foods that are high in fat and low in vitamins and minerals. This can potentially increase the risk of developing chronic diseases such as heart disease, osteoporosis and diabetes.
Educators will be provided with lesson plans and lesson materials to enable them to promote healthy fats, moderation and balance in accordance to Eating Well with Canada’s Food Guide. Each section includes a variety of activities that are organized according to topic as well as grade level.
