“Our community…Moving and Choosing … to be Healthy” is a school & community based collaboration promoting healthy growth and development and the prevention of child and adolescent obesity. Primary project components address nutrition, healthy eating, physical activity, smoking cessation and the prevention of disordered eating. Still in the piloting stage, a Lead Teacher – Healthy School Network Model is utilized to enable project staff, partners and teachers to work together to build the health promotion capacity of schools and families. Key objectives target building healthy school environments and improving access to high quality curriculum education in nutrition and physical activity. Community partnerships link schools and families to programs which promote active living and increase food security.
Mission Statement
We are community partners working together to increase the ability of individuals and communities to make choices that promote a balanced, healthy lifestyle.
The Moving and Choosing Project is a multi-sectoral, community based network of individuals and organizations committed to increasing the capacity of our community to promote and sustain healthy active lifestyles of children, youth, and their families.
Using a population health approach, Moving and Choosing will be developing plans for community mobilization within the school environment and the greater community. The collection of baseline data assists with planning and evaluation.
Moving and Choosing is working with schools to improve physical activity levels and nutrition awareness among students, staff, and families. Sustainability will be an important part of any programs.
Moving and Choosing is working with national and provincial networks of like minded groups to learn from, support and contribute to the evolution of quality prevention programs promoting healthy lifestyles.
