Talking to Kids about Smoking
Most parents don’t expect their children to smoke. You may be surprised to learn that 9% of Alberta children had their first cigarette between the ages of 5 and 11 and 30% of Alberta smokers had their first cigarette between the ages of 12 and 14.
Getting more involved with child will help them make better decisions. Preteens who report they regularly eat meals, follow a family calendar, and discuss free-time activities with their parents are less likely to smoke and more likely to live longer, healthier lives.
Parenting can mean prevention of chronic diseases and tobacco related illness and disease.
