Local Student Recipient of the Barb Tarbox Youth Scholarship Award
Cassidy Sauvé, has won the Barb Tarbox Youth Scholarship Award, which entitles her to a $2500 scholarship. To honour the legacy of Barb Tarbox, AADAC annually recognizes individuals, youth, businesses and non-profit groups that make significant contributions in the area of tobacco prevention, cessation, reduction or protection from second-hand smoke in Alberta. Cassidy is a grade 5 student at Notre Dame Academy. Cassidy made a submission to and then became published in the book, "Let's Clear The Air: 10 Reasons Not To Start Smoking" (available through Amazon), which is a book geared toward youth and discusses the reasons not to take up the smoking habit.
Cassidy recieved the award for her contributions in the area of tobacco reduction with youth during the World No Tobacco Day celebrations held in Edmonton.

The local Canadian Cancer Society and Moving &Choosing are currently working on a resource kit which will include the book with Cassidy's submission. The kit will be geared to Grades 4, 5 & 6 and will be available for schools and the community to borrow.
